1 March - 24 June
Opening: 1 March at 6.30 pm
The exhibition Mood/Humor came about as a result of the loan of
a series of seven paintings by Paula Rego entitled
Possession (2004) belonging to the Museu de Serralves
collection and never before shown in Cascais and Lisbon. By way of
the theme of female hysteria, dealt with specifically in this set
of panels alongside its possible forms of expression, the Fundação
Paula Rego/Casa das Histórias Paula Rego collection is here
revisited from the perspective of the representation and
manifestation of the moods, emotional states and feelings that are
so evident in the artist's work.
The exhibition, which is split into sections that examine themes
such as the depiction of human expressions, altered states of
consciousness and perception, and music as a narrative support and
creative fuse, also includes the painting Jenufa, loaned
by a private collector, several emblematic works from the museum
collection, such as the already exhibited series of paintings and
engravings entitled Operas and Wine, and a set of
unseen drawings produced by the artist at a moment of discovery and
consolidation of her research.
The exhibition is curated by Ana Ruivo
